Chalong Bay is a vibrant combination of a port, residential area and shopping hub on the east-central coast of Phuket, just south of Phuket Town and north of Rawai.
The shoreline in Chalong tend to be rocky and rather unsuitable for swimming. There are plenty of boats and yachts to watch for the interested with vessels depart from Royal Phuket Marina and Chalong Pier to surrounding islands in Phang Nga Bay, such as Coral Island for diving and snorkelling trips.
Chalong Bay is home to the iconic hilltop Big Buddha and the elaborate Wat Chalong. You will not find a lack of interesting things to do in Chalong, including golfing at Phunaka Golf Driving Range, go-karting at Phuket Racing Kart, and the famous Muay Thai Soi (Soi Tai-Ed) is located in the northern part of Chalong.
The nightlife in Chalong Bay is concentrated around the 800-metre long pier and the 5-lane Chalong Circle, with most bars and pubs been operating for decades.
The Chalong property market consists mostly of villas, townhouses with and without private pool, but there are also a couple of condominiums. The area is popular among expats and long-stay tourists.
Chalong area is usually more suitable for the expat families with kids who are sending their kids to International schools. It is possible to find so many long term rental properties in Chalong area.
Chalong has been developing gradually since the Chalong Circle underpass is completed. There are couple new International Schools started operating in the area.
